Use the preview

The preview shows the model on a fixed plate, so you can judge its size and how it stands.

Look around

  • Drag in the preview to orbit around the model.
  • Scroll to zoom in and out. This only changes the view, not the model's size.

Buttons and options below the preview

ControlWhat it does
Comparison viewGoes back to the standard view. It's the same for every model, so you can compare their sizes.
Find modelZooms in on the model, for example when it's very small. Doesn't change the model.
Center on originMoves the model back to the middle of the plate and sets it on the floor. Size and rotation stay the same. Can be undone with Ctrl+Z.
1 m rulerShows a 1 metre ruler with 10 cm marks.
1.75 m humanShows the outline of a person 1.75 m tall, to check the size at a glance.
Highlight modelOutlines the model in cyan, so small models are easy to spot.

The ruler, the person and the plate are only for checking. They're never saved with the model.

Adjust in the Scene view instead

Tick Adjust in Scene view (show existing scene) to work on the model in Unity's Scene view, next to the rest of your scene. This helps to compare its size with other objects in the room.

  • Use W to move, E to turn and R to resize, or keep using the fields in step 2.
  • The model is only a preview. It isn't added to your scene and doesn't appear in the Hierarchy.

Untick the box to go back to the plate.

Warnings

If the model is outside the view, off the plate or below the floor, the tool tells you. Use Find model to locate it, or Center on origin to bring it back.
