Electric Field

Menu: ALF > Physics > Electric Field Setup

Builds an electrostatics experiment in the room: one to four point charges float in front of the learner, with the electric field around them shown as arrows and field lines. Learners move a test probe through the field to read the field strength and the force on a test charge, and run a scan that plots both along a straight path.

The lab comes with:

  • ready-made arrangements: a single charge, two like charges, and a dipole;
  • a test probe with live readouts of the field E (N/C) and the force F (N);
  • a scan that draws a graph of |E| and |F| along a path;
  • controls for the arrows, the field lines and the arrow scale;
  • an optional guided lesson in English and German.

It's the sibling of the Planetary Lab and works the same way.

Quick start

  1. Make a lesson scene with Scene Generation.
  2. Open ALF > Physics > Electric Field Setup.
  3. In step 1 Lab, press Create lab in active scene.
  4. Work through steps 2 Charges to 5 Lesson.
  5. In step 6 Save, press Apply lab settings, then save the scene with Ctrl+S.
